How to reasonably adjust the clearance of bearings?

Bearing clearance is one of the key factors that determine the service life of bearings.

If the bearing clearance is too large, relative sliding will occur between the shaft and the bearing,
causing serious wear of the bearing, which will affect the service life and mechanical operation performance of the bearing.

If the bearing clearance is too small, the load on the bearing will increase, accelerating the fatigue damage of the bearing,
which is also not conducive to the service life and mechanical operation performance of the bearing.
Therefore, it is very important to reasonably select and adjust the bearing clearance.

In practical applications, the clearance adjustment of bearings is a key link. Through reasonable clearance adjustment,
the service life and mechanical operation performance of the bearing can be improved,
the maintenance cost can be reduced, and the production efficiency can be improved.

The appropriate clearance range needs to be determined according to the working conditions of the equipment and the use requirements of the bearing.
Generally speaking, the bearing clearance under high speed, high temperature, heavy load and other working conditions
should be appropriately larger to dissipate heat and reduce friction; while the bearing clearance under low speed,
low temperature, light load and other working conditions should be appropriately smaller to improve the bearing support stiffness and operation accuracy.

The radial clearance of the bearing can be measured to determine whether adjustment is needed.
Generally speaking, new bearings have a certain radial clearance before assembly.
If the radial clearance of the bearing is found to exceed the allowable range during use, it needs to be adjusted.

The clearance of the bearing can be changed by adjusting the bearing seat or gasket.
For non-adjustable bearing seats, the clearance of the bearing can be changed by replacing gaskets of different thicknesses;
for adjustable bearing seats, the clearance of the bearing can be changed by tightening or loosening the adjustment screws.

Reasonable adjustment of the clearance of bearings is of great significance to ensure the service life of the bearing and the mechanical operation performance.
In practical applications, reasonable clearance adjustment should be carried out according to the working conditions
of the equipment and the use requirements of the bearing to give full play to the superior performance of  bearings.
