What exactly is a bearing?

1.What exactly is a bearing?

A bearing is a "part that helps an object rotate". As the name suggests, a bearing is a part that supports the "axis" that rotates in a machine.

Machines that use bearings include cars, airplanes, generators, etc.
Household appliances such as refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and air conditioners that we commonly use in our lives also use bearings.
In these machines, bearings are responsible for providing support for the "axis" on which parts such as wheels,
gears, turbines, and rotors are installed, helping the axis to rotate smoothly.

Since many rotating "axis" are used in various machines, bearings have become an indispensable part and are called "food for the machinery industry".
This part may look inconspicuous, but it is actually very important. Without it, we will not be able to live a normal life.

2. Why is it important?

In order to make the machine run smoothly, what role does the bearing play?

It has two major roles.

≪Function 1≫ Reduce friction and make rotation smoother

The rotating "axis" and the rotating support part will definitely cause friction. Bearings are used between the rotating "axis" and the rotating support part.

Bearings can reduce friction, make rotation smoother, and reduce energy consumption. This is the role of bearings.

≪Function 2≫ Protect the rotating support part and keep the rotating "axis" in the correct position

The rotating "axis" and the rotating support part will be subjected to a large force. The bearing can prevent the rotating support part from being damaged by this force and keep the rotating "axis" in the correct position.

It is because of these roles of the bearing that we can use the machine repeatedly for a long time.
