Installation and repair of rolling bearings

2017-05-10

Before mounting new bearings, they should be thoroughly washed in a bath with transformer oil heated to a temperature of 90 - 95°C for 10 - 20 min. Then they are washed in petrol. Use of kerosene for washing of rolling bearings is not recommended, as it cannot be completely removed from the bearing and over time it will cause corrosion of the bearing.

After the flushing has been completed, check that the bearing rotates easily and smoothly. Note that there is no seizure, stiffness, or abnormal noise.

If the new bearing does not match the inside or outside diameter, or the width of the old bearing, repair sleeves or thrust washers may be used.

To reduce the diameter of the shaft or increase the diameter of the hole in the cover within 0,02 - 0,03 mm use emery cloth. For larger deviations on the shaft or in the hole install an intermediate bushing.

Before installing the bushing, turning the shaft is necessary.

The outside diameter of the bushing should be 3 to 5 mm larger than the inside diameter of the bearing and the inside diameter should be 0.3 to 0.4% less than the shaft diameter machined under the bushing.

Before installing the bushing on the shaft it should be heated to 400 - 500 ° C. When cooled, the bush fitted on the shaft is ground to final size to the bearing inner diameter.
